Artist bio

Andrey ESS Burtaev, is better known under his ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM alias, and his name has already been highlighted within the history of dance music, drum and bass in particular. His tracks are played by top DJs all over the world, his talent is noticed by famous producers, critics and ordinary listeners.

Andrey started his way into music in 1998: First computer, first music software, then first tunes were made. It was pure enthusiasm and a strong will to create. A bit later, the first project FORCE MEASURING DEVICE was created together with Andrey's classmate, Alexander Skipetrov. But the cooperation did not last long, having turned into Alexander's solo project FM DEVICE. Later Andrey teamed up with his another classmate, Dmitri "Shalabass" Zubkov and that was the initial start of ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM.

By the beginning of 2001 the guys had compiled around 20 intelligent, atmospheric and downtempo pieces, focused on the sound of Good Looking Records, the sound that they were fans of. Later that year, Roman Paramonov (a promoter and a musical distributor) first introduced LTJ BUKEM & MC CONRAD to Moscow, to perform at the STEPPIN'SESSION party. Andrey and Dmitri got acquainted with Roman and through his assistance they started sending their tunes to Bukem and other artists of the label: NOOKIE, BLAME, BIG BUD, FUTURE ENGINEERS. After a while, Electrosoul System became a permanent resident of STEPPIN'SESSION parties.

In 2003 Dmitri left the project. Shortly after that Andrey signed his first contract with Good Looking, and "A Tear In My Eye" was featured in “Progression Sessions - MAKOTO & DEEIZM – Japan Live 2003”. Also that year his tunes got into "Courvoisier Café Vol.1", and in a year Andrey mixed the second volume of the compilation, which was included into an issue of "Afisha" magazine that achieved a blasting circulation of 100000! However owing to wide popularity and hype, audio pirates printed even more copies!

Since 2004 Electrosoul System has been a demanded musician. His tracks are bestsellers on Strictly-Digital.com, a digital dance music store which was a predecessor of Beatport). His tunes featured on CD-inlets of Knowledge and ATM, major UK magazines dedicated to drum&bass and breakbeat culture. Different labels from UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the USA are competing for a chance to release Andrey's tracks.

Since the beginning of 2005 Electrosoul System's vinyls have regularly appeared on various labels, such as Hospital, Camino Blue, Grid, New Identity, Subtitles, Fokuz, Covert Operations, Phuturo, Spearhead, Covert Operations, Nu Directions, Progress, Phuzion to name a few.
In 2006 Andrey Burtaev and Roman Paramonov started their own label, KOS.MOS.MUSIC, and in 2007 the first release hit the stores. In the next 3 years the label issued 10 releases, mostly done by musicians from Russia and other ex-USSR countries, promoting Russian dnb-scene forward and bringing those producers to the attention of label owners from all over the world.

Along with his drum and bass/breakbeat career Andrey has been working on 4x4 music: house, tech-house, techno, electrotech, progressive and even trance. The first noticeable release "Echoes EP" under ANDREY BURTAEV alias was out on Precinct Records (ex-owners of Hooj Choons) in 2007 and got really positive feedback and support from James Zabiela, Ozgur Can, Dave Seaman, James Holden, Sven Väth etc. Then came Andrey's releases on Plastic Fantastic, No Future and Solaris. In 2011 his track "Don't So No..." and it's remixed version by Chris Lattner released on Highway Records, got into playlists and charts of a great number of famous DJs all over the world, being favored by Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier, Steve Bug and Joris Voorn, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo, Matthias Tanzmann and Danny Howells, Wally Lopez and Groove Armada, Bushwacka! and Lee Burridge, and also Sergey Sanches and Mike Spirit, Russian tech house gurus .

During his music career Andrey has played in almost every European country, UK and even China, had the numerous performances at KaZantip and the Technopolis festival in the Crimea, has travelled many cities of Russia and former USSR, played on Pirate Station, The World Of Drum and Bass, and other big raves, to say nothing of KOS.MOS.MUSIC's own regular parties STEPPIN’SESSION and PHUTURE BEATS. He also used to work on Relax FM 90.8 and Megapolis FM 89.5, famous Moscow radio stations. As a DJ, Andrey has also appeared under different aliases: as ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM playing drum'n'bass, breakz, downtempo, lounge and chill-out, and as ANDREY BURTAEV playing tech-house, techno, progressive.

Another story is Andrey's project called ESSL (ELECTROSOUL SYSTEM LIVE) which is completely live and based on the music from his debute album "FISH EAT DUCK". ESSL is a mix of electronic and live instruments - drums, guitar, bayan (button accordion) and different folk instruments. Conventionally the project's style can be described as psychedelic acid-jazz-rock electronica.
Thus, he is a keen producer, DJ and recent live musical performer working non-stop to master his talent and open new horizons.
