The News

Track

“The News” is the second single from Paramore’s sixth album This Is Why. It was written by Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro and produced by Carlos de la Garza. The single released on December 8, 2022 accompanied by a music video. "The News" was released on December 8, 2022. According to Williams, "'The News' is one of those songs that came together pretty quickly and felt exciting from the start. It feels like a happy medium between classic Paramore angst and bringing in some influences we've always had but never exploited...watching Zac track drums for this one was one of my favorite memories from the studio." The band released a snippet of a song from their album This Is Why on their discord on September 9. A second snippet was posted on TikTok by the account @isthiswhyisthisiswhy on September 11th. A third snippet was airdropped to @deadboy28 after their concert on November 13th. On the Paramore Discord on December 7, Hayley sent a message saying “‘This Is Why’ has been out for a few months now. It seems like people are into it, which is such a relief. I know there will always be folks that don’t love it when we switch up the sound on them but I try to believe that anyone who doesn’t get it now will find it when they’re meant to. We’re dropping another song soon and I’m starting to feel like a volcano ready to blow. It’s only a single piece of the whole picture but hopefully, ‘The News,’ is going to give a little more context to the meaning behind ‘This Is Why’.” "The News" is a post-punk and math rock song. According to Loudwire, "the song...is a more driving, upbeat rocker within the verses, but pulls back to deliver a more hypnotic...chorus". The music video was released the same day as the song and was directed by Mike Kluge and Matthew DeLisi. Read more on Last.fm.
